Wrest Point

WE DRIVE PAST

Opening as Australia’s first legal casino in 1973, Wrest Point remains a prominent landmark on Hobart’s city skyline. It was named after the Traveller’s Wrest Hotel, a popular watering hole that was erected by William Chaffey in 1836 on what is now Sandy Bay Road.

Wrest Point was constructed as a dodecagonal prism tower on the designs of Sir Roy Grounds and remains the city’s tallest building at 73 metres in height. In addition to casino facilities and gaming areas, Wrest Point is home to a conference centre, several restaurants and a waterfront boardwalk.

In total, there are 269 hotel rooms within Wrest Point, many of which offer sweeping views across the River Derwent. At the top of the tower is the Point Revolving Restaurant, which is renowned for its fine dining experiences.
